The Board Members
Abather Al-Juboori
Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer
Mr. Al Juboori’s leadership has led AWI’s remarkable success over the past 16 years. His commitment to our motto of “rebuilding Iraq one project at a time,” and his drive for excellence have positioned AWI among the top construction and contracting companies in Iraq.
Mr. Al-Juboori established domestic and international partnerships, serving both commercial and government sectors.
Mr. Al-Juboori directs the strategic planning of AWI, focusing on developing new and existing markets as well as relationships with clients and strategic partners aimed at rebuilding Iraq.
Mr. Al-Juboori graduated Masters of Laws, Major in International Business from Sorbonne-Assas International Law School, Université Pantheon Assas (Paris II), Summa Cum Laude.
Evan Weiss
President
Mr. Weiss joined AWI as President in January 2013. Since joining AWI, Mr. Weiss has focused on shaping the company’s culture of safety, integrity and performance and has led the growth and development of the company’s internal and external operations to meet the growing demands of our markets and customers.
Prior to joining AWI, Mr. Weiss was the President of Transfield Services, US Resources and Energy business, where he reorganized the business and completed the acquisition of Steier Oilfield Service in North Dakota. Prior to working for Transfield, Mr. Weiss spent 22 years with Day & Zimmermann and its affiliated subsidiaries and JV’s.
With over 31 years’ experience, Mr. Weiss has led businesses serving government and commercial customers in the US and international arenas. His experience covers a wide spectrum of services ranging from oil well construction, refinery maintenance, turnarounds, biotech engineering and construction to security and logistics services in the US, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Khaled Dahawy
Independent Board Member
Khaled Dahawy is an AWI board member as of January 20th, 2022. He brings true expertise and a proven track record in accounting and auditing to the board. Mr. Dahawy is an executive partner at Mohamed Dahawy and Company and is a Professor of Accounting at The American University in Cairo. Prior to this role, Mr. Dahawy was the Head of the Audit Committee at the Egyptian Post Office. Mr. Dahawy has work experience of over thirty years, including a variety of auditor, manager, board, and executive positions. He served on the Board of Directors for the Egyptian Post Office from 2013-2014, and has been called on as a consultant to the United Nations Conference on Trade Development and to the World Bank. In addition to his professional experience, Mr. Dahawy has academic work experience of over 25 years, including professor, director, and chairman roles.
Graham Bland
Independent Board Member
Graham Bland is an AWI board member as of January 20th, 2022. He brings a large body of experience in various markets and a proven track record in core operations and general management to the board. Mr. Bland is the CDO of BEINIT Energy, an international energy consultancy, project management, and construction management company. In this role, Mr. Bland has bottom-line accountability for the full range of oil and gas services offered by BEINIT. Mr. Bland’s professional experience spans more than 35 years, including CEO, CDO, COO, Country Manager, and General Manager roles across major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractors. He has a proven track-record of growing profitable businesses and delivering complex mega-infrastructure and industrial projects safely, on time, within budget and to quality. He is the author of several publications on project management and served as Chairman of the 2006 British Chamber of Commerce in Abu Dhabi.
Gamal Fathy
Independent Board Member
Gamal Fathy Mohamed Abdel-Fattah is an AWI board member as of January 20th, 2022. He brings a close familiarity with the petroleum industry and a proven track record of excellence in HSE to the board. Mr. Abdel-Fattah is the CEO’s Assistant on HSE for Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC). In this role, he directs all HSE leaders across the organization and oversees HSE activities and performance for all companies under the umbrella of EGPC. Prior to this role, Mr. Abdel-Fattah was the HSE General Manager for Rashid Petroleum Company. He has over 20 years of management experience and over 35 years of total work experience in the chemical and petroleum industries.
The main role of the board is mainly to direct and control. The board’s key purpose “is to ensure the company’s prosperity by collectively directing the company’s affairs, while meeting the appropriate interests of its shareholders and relevant stakeholders” (Standards for the Board, IoD).
